Peru: Mystical mountains and lush rainforests
29 September - 17 October 2011
The tour was a wonderful experience and I'm already planning the next one in 2013 which is likely to include an optional extra few days at the iguassu Falls on the border of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay.
Tour highlights included:
- Fly south to Arequipa the day after arriving in Lima. The highlight of our four days in this area is the Colca Canyon - on the rim at the Cruz del Condor expect to see the majestic condors in flight.
- Puno, Lake Titicaca and homestay on Amantani Island
- Cusco - ancient Inca capital and probably the 'buzziest' town in Peru!
- Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu
- Ollantaytambo and the Sacred Valley
- Three nights in a rainforest lodge near Puerto Maldonado on the edge of the Amazon jungle. Click here to visit the website of Posada Amazonas, the lodge in which we stay. It really is as good as it looks - even better!
